Here's the link
to the game
Using of Travesty N=1:
Translating the lyrics of James Blunt’s “You’re beautiful” into something
funny In the game: when two old man sitting in the garden, they were
singing this generated funny song. These are the original generated
words:
Yo n wifaul be it'redow wh know ause

Using of Googlism:
I was searching Oreos on Googlism since Oreos are the favorite food of my
autobiographical character. I ended up getting the definition “oreo is a
black and white maine coon cat”, and I thought why not I translating oreo
into something alive? That could be interesting. So now in the game, Oreos
are a kind of creature that loves to hunt squirrels.
Using of Crowdsourcing:
I’ve been collecting my friends’ opinion on whether to make a horror game
or a more gentle game. Results are similar. So I’m going to fill in some
horror elements but overall a gentle game.
Using of N+7:
There is a robot character in the game called Tyloo. I thought a robot
could end up speaking a lot of non-sense. So I used N+7 to generate some
weird words for Tyloo.
Like: “I'll show you the lama and the oreos there if you can buy me some
new dry cloud…” “You wondering why would I have a balcony of oreos?”
But it was: “I'll show you the lake and the oreos there if you can buy me
some new dry clothes…” “You wondering why would I have a bag of oreos?”
Using of Otter.ai:
I recorded all the words that “You”, the commander says in otter.ai.
Sometimes they are not accurate. So I added strike through lines on the
original sentence, and put the transcript sentence after it.
Another way to recognize sentences from otter.ai is that no matter how
hard you shout, it just doesn’t record feelings. So these sentences has no
punctuations at all.
That makes the commander a weird character because many times his words
are indicating a severe situation but without punctuations, he’s like
“meh” all the time.
Using of Oblique strategies:
1.Abandon normal instruments: usually we write games with a static point
of view. For example if I’m describing things that A experiences through
the game, players would possibly take themselves into that character A.
But in my game, all of the descriptions describing the Potatoman is from a
third person view.
2.Ghost echoes: players would assume that they are controlling the
movements of the Potatoman at the beginning. But when the character
“you”(the commander) is introduced, players would suddenly realize that
they are controlling the commander, like a ghost, all the time but not the
Potatoman.
3.Is it finished?: I put 11 different ending in the game. I am not
expecting players to fully understand the setting after they finished one
ending. They will need to replay several times and to try to get different
endings in order to understand the background story.
4.Do the words need changing?: I used a kind of documentary style to write
all characters’ movements. I think that would be fun.
5.Go to an extreme, move back to a more comfortable place: The endings
basically have two different types - the Potatoman being contained, or the
Potatoman gets his Oreos. Both are mild, but I added two or three extreme
endings which the Potatoman kills. I think that would give the players a
shock to reinterpret this Potatoman character.
Using of Botnik.org:
I used it to create some interesting names.
Like the coffee brand “Concrete Cheering” or the guy names “Sir Buttercup
Spin”.
Using of Anagram Generator:
Describe the weather: “filled with sunshine” to “Fleshed With Insulin”
GAME DESCRIPTION
General settings of the game(spoilers alert)(don’t read this until you
have played a few rounds):
There are millions of Potatoman in the world. Each of them have the power
to destroy a whole continent, but they are mild in the most of the time.
The only thing they care is to hunt Oreos and to store their corpses. If
you don’t bother them during hunting, they won’t bother(destroy) you. You,
as the commander of Potato Lab, are taking charge of capturing Potatoman
for scientific analysis. With a tiny mistake, you may end up dying with
your teammates due to the terrifying power of Potatoman. You must be
careful. In the operations, a hypnosis signal amplifier will be provided.
You will be able to invade into the Potatoman’s mind and to induce them
doing what you want them to do. A human-shaped robot Tyloo will be
activated if needed. He will assist you to capture the Potatoman.
